Shift: Recalibrating

A Devotional by Ceola J.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Looking back on September, I must admit how challenging it has been. Father God brought our family through a major event that tested our faith and landed us at another level of surrender. My ways of thinking, and even my expectations regarding outcomes, had to change. I had to plan and move differently, and I wondered why. Why the shift? Why am I being recalibrated?

As I pondered these questions, I began to think about what it actually means to recalibrate. And when I considered the definition—to adjust, to bring something back into proper alignment so that it functions as intended—I thought to myself, “Hmm, is Father God bringing me back into alignment?” Not because I was necessarily doing something wrong, but because where I was going required something different from me.

I know we may not often consider this fact, but sometimes we become so accustomed to how “we” do things, how “we” respond, how “we” plan, and even how “we” exercise our faith that “we” fail to recognize when Father God is requiring something different or something more from us. And yes, that can sometimes include less of us and more of Him!

I was thinking about Proverbs 3:5–6, and in this passage, you notice the scripture doesn’t say trust Him when things make sense or when the outcome is what “we” expected. It says trust Him with ALL your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. I thought, there it is! The recalibration wasn’t necessarily about changing what Father God had spoken to me, but changing how I was approaching what He had spoken.

So, I propose this question to you: What if the shift you’re experiencing isn’t a setback, but what if Father God is adjusting your perspective and preparing you for what is ahead? What if what currently feels uncomfortable is simply the process of being repositioned?

Can I offer you some encouragement today as we close this month? Dare to examine where you may need to recalibrate. Whether it’s your thinking, your response, your expectations, or even your willingness to surrender what you cannot control. As I always say, remember, the right perspective changes everything!

Prayer

Father God, thank You for loving us enough to make the necessary adjustments in our lives. Help us recognize when You are calling us to shift, and give us the wisdom, faith, and courage to surrender to Your direction. Recalibrate our hearts, minds, and perspectives so that we remain aligned with Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Be encouraged!
