There Comes A Time
A Devotional by Ceola J.
“By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.”
There comes a time when you just have to go, do, and say… There isn’t a perfect time to trust Father God. There isn’t a perfect time to do the things He has called you to do. Sometimes, you have to step out on His Word in faith. And yes, that could mean doing it afraid, without the perceived resources, support, or help; trust me, I know firsthand what that looks and feels like, and it’s uncomfortable.
I recently watched a movie entitled Red, White & Brass, inspired by a true story about a Tongan family and community determined to attend the Rugby World Cup. Through an incredible series of events, they found themselves having to put together a brass band in just four weeks! They didn’t have everything they needed, and the obstacles seemed endless. But one thing that stayed with me was how one of the characters repeatedly said, “God will provide.”
And you know what? They didn’t just sit around waiting for provision. They brought together their church, family, and friends, worked with what they had, practiced, and kept moving forward. As I watched, I was so inspired and encouraged. I know we have questions; I do: questions like, “If Father God has called us to something, why does it sometimes seem so difficult to bring it to pass?” After all, doesn’t His Word say He watches over His Word to perform it? (Jeremiah 1:12).
Okay, can I be transparent? There have been times when I’ve looked at what others are accomplishing and wondered why their journey appears so much easier than mine. Father God, you have called me to do all this stuff: Stage plays, podcasts, magazines, skincare products, and everything else, and Father God, it requires resources! And truth be told, it becomes hard, and I get tired. Incredibly tired! Honey, there have been many times when I’ve even thought, Lord, enough already! I could return to my good-paying, steady job with excellent benefits and leave all this struggling behind! Am I the only one, or can you, too, relate?
But here’s something this journey has and continues to teach me… Just because Father God calls us to carry out some things doesn’t mean we won’t encounter difficulties while fulfilling them.
Another lesson I learned is that we’re sometimes looking for provision in one form while Father God is providing it in another. Sometimes, that provision comes through the people He places around us, not simply through the money we’re waiting to receive. And that last part can be hard because of pride. I, too, have learned this very hard lesson.
If you will, for a moment, think about Abraham. Look at how he obeyed without knowing where he was going. He didn’t have all the answers, but he had Father God’s Word! Faith isn’t simply about stepping out; it’s also about continuing to trust when the journey becomes difficult, and the resources haven’t arrived as expected.
Here’s my encouragement to you, and yes, to myself. We shouldn’t allow what we don’t have to overshadow what Father God has already placed in our hands. Let’s use what we have, seek His wisdom, and take the next step as He directs—in obedience, faith, and trust in Him. Let’s stop waiting for everything to be perfect and trust Father God enough to move. And in those moments when we grow weary? Let’s also trust Him for the strength to continue!
Father God, thank You for Your faithfulness. When we become weary, strengthen us. When resources seem insufficient, grant us wisdom. Help us recognize Your provision, trust Your timing, and remain obedient to Your direction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
