Honestly.
A Devotional by Ceola J.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
Who can you honestly talk to and let your heart be free? Father God, yes. Possibly your BFF, yes. Your parents, possibly, yes. But do you? It’s not that we don’t have the option to talk to someone and free our hearts, but rather, do we? And honestly, I believe sometimes the reason is out of concern for them. We don’t want to bother or burden them, so we keep our struggles, emotional depletion, spiritual weariness, physical ailments, and financial deficiencies to ourselves.
Yeah, we pray about it, and that is essential, key, and important. Talking to Father God is never wrong; in fact, it is the absolute wisest thing you can do. However, Father God created us for relationship, and sometimes I think there is a tendency to become so spiritual that we fail to be human. We need each other.
The last three to four weeks, I have been struggling. I mean, meeting my workload and demands, spiritual attacks, and more. There were really moments when I thought, I cannot take not “nare-nother,” as my granny-granny would say. I was overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, and tired.
I thought about talking to my BFF, but thought, nah. I don’t want to burden her with my stuff. After her, I thought, I really have no one to go to. Yes, I could have spoken to my husband, but I didn’t want to burden him either. And let me say this: we have a great relationship and our communication is excellent. But for the same reason I didn’t want to bother my BFF, I didn’t want to bother him. Do you hear how that sounds? Good. I wanted you to hear that.
And here’s why. I wanted you to see how isolation can disguise itself as consideration. How many times have you said, I don’t want to bother them. They have enough going on. I’ll be okay. I already prayed about it. I want you to understand something: that is exactly how the enemy isolates us.
Galatians 6:2 tells us to “bear ye one another’s burdens.” That means I cannot allow someone to help carry what I refuse to share. Listen, you don’t have to tell everybody everything; that’s godly wisdom. But if Father God has placed safe, trustworthy people in your life, stop deciding for them that you are a burden.
If you are struggling, overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, afraid, or simply tired—talk to someone. What you are experiencing is valid. It warrants a conversation, a listening ear, and sometimes just the freedom to say, “Honestly, I’m not okay right now.” Release brings clarity. Clarity causes movement. And movement means you’re no longer stuck. So, honestly? Call somebody.
Father God, thank You for creating us for relationship — with You and with one another. Forgive me for the times I have isolated myself under the guise of not wanting to be a burden. Help me to trust the safe people You have placed in my life. Give me the courage to be honest, to let my heart be free, and to allow others to help carry what I was never meant to carry alone. And where I have been the one others needed, make me available, present, and full of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
